Under the guidance of FSRO, with the help of Morrison Elementary’s other Partners in Education–Ameriprise, First Western Bank, and International Paper—Morrison Elementary held its Relay Recess on May 6 of this year.
Dr. Kris Gast and Fort Smith Radiation Oncology, along with the other partners, received a reward for their hard work as the winners of the Whole Heart Award at the annual end-of-school Partners in Education luncheon held May 30.
Team FSRO aka the Fighting Scots for a Cure took this year’s relay by storm! Using the theme Scotland, team members were clothed in traditional Scottish kilts, capes, and dresses. The Fort Smith Fire Department Bagpipe Corp joined Team FSRO for their team lap, playing traditional Scottish music. Team FSRO won Best Campsite Award and Best Team Flag/Lap Award. Kim Vann, medical dosmetrist, was the Event Chair for the Relay and Dr. Kris Gast spoke during the Fight Back Ceremony. Many former FSRO patients joined the employees this year to help in the fight against cancer!
Fort Smith Radiation Oncology, a long time partner with Morrison Elementary, helped facilitate the only Relay Recess held in the Fort Smith school system on Monday, May 6. The week prior to the event the students learned about sun safety, dangers of smoking, healthy eating habits, and the importance of exercise. Morrison students raised over $250 from their penny drive, all going to the American Cancer Society.
