Dr. Kris Gast ~ Ask the Pros

Q:  I have had normal pelvic exams in the past, but I have low back pain and have frequent urination.  Could this be ovarian cancer?

A: Ovarian cancer is known as the silent cancer with subtle symptoms easily confused with other illnesses.  Ovarian cancer symptoms can be bloating, weight loss, urinary frequency, and problems eating.  If these symptoms have been present for 6-12 months, they could very well be related to ovarian cancer.  However, the most common cause of the combination of low back pain and urinary frequency is a bladder infection.  I suggest you see your doctor for a urinalysis and to discuss your symptoms.
